What I love the most about Pokémon Black & White versions is how heartwrenching it is without even trying. You see, there are two sides of a coin, team Plasma and the player. Two sides of the same ideal and that is that Pokémon be happy. Yet one is infinitely different from the other. Both want to achieve the same goal, but in essence, they’re not the same. The ending justify the means, right? Well, not always. You can’t play Black & White without thinking “to be honest, I sort of agree with N’s ideals”, but at the same time, when you think about the time you spent with your pokémon - with these creatures that are nothing more than hand-drawn pixels on the screen of a handheld console - you also start thinking N is wrong, and so is team Plasma and everyone because no one is taking this little creature, this baby you raised from the ground up, from you. The thing about this game is that it’s neither black nor white. It’s all about the little grays in between because no one is ever right or wrong in absolute. There’s no right side. Nor the player’s, nor N’s. It’s just a clash of different ideals. That’s why there is no Gray version, because there is no need to, it’s already here. You’re not wrong because you agree with the player or because you agree with N. That’s the beauty of this game; there’s no definitive answer, there’s just your own ideals and beliefs and that’s all you need. As someone who has been with the franchise since I was eight, I can proudly say this is my favorite entry for a reason. Nothing is absolute, black or white. It’s all in the grays.
